Title: 성좌들이 나오는 게임을 만들었다

Plot Summary:

The protagonist, suddenly falling into another world, finds his dopamine levels from his modern-day brain completely wiped out. So, he decides to create a game. Luckily, he meets a kind investor, a Celestial Being, who helps him create a game in the same format as what he used to do back on Earth. To meet the investor’s satisfaction and gain popularity, the protagonist develops a virtual reality game with Celestial Beings as the main theme and intertwines stories with the Celestials.

Personal Review:

Celestial Beings:

So far, the Celestial Beings introduced in the game are [The Lazy Sacrifice], [The Enraged Magi Engineer], and [The Arrogant King of Ten Thousand Demons]. From the titles of the Celestials, you can see a conflict between opposing forces. For instance, the Lazy and Sacrificial one show a dichotomy of good versus evil. The story expands the scale of the world by showing how these Celestial Beings, with seeds of sins like laziness, anger, and pride, are being monitored or harvested by other beings.

Omnibus Structure:

The stories of the Celestials are told in an omnibus format, with each episode shedding light on their past before they became Celestials. For instance, one episode tells the story of Ren, a knight before becoming a Celestial, while another shows a Magi Engineer who lost his unrequited love. We also learn about the tale of a Demon Lord who killed his master to maintain peace on the continent. This format provides a sense of continuity and backstory while progressing the main plot.

Homage:

The episode with [The Enraged Magi Engineer] is an homage to Honkai Impact 3rd‘s Otto Apocalypse. This raises the quality of the work, allowing readers familiar with it to immerse themselves more easily. However, since the author does not explicitly mention this homage or get permission from the original creator, it could raise concerns of plagiarism. Some readers have asked about the original work, making it a topic of interest outside of the story itself.

Evaluation:

  • Originality ★★★☆☆
The story’s originality lies in its combination of Celestial Beings and virtual reality game development in another world, as well as the protagonist’s special ability.
  • Immersion ★★★☆☆
Each Celestial has its own unique and attractive backstory, and the homage chapter helps deepen the engagement. However, some readers may find it harder to get fully immersed due to the pacing and storytelling style.
  • Popularity ★★★☆☆
The concept of Celestial Beings in a gacha game setting and the protagonist’s role as a game creator is engaging, making it likely to attract a broad audience.
  • Writing Quality ★★★☆☆
The storytelling relies heavily on the player’s involvement in the game, but the narrative sometimes feels like you’re watching a video instead of playing a game. The pacing of the story might make the reader feel disconnected from the game-like experience.
  • Diligence ★★★★★
The author consistently updates the story with regular daily releases and even does 2-3 updates per session.

Overall Review:

This novel lacks clear definitions between the roles of the game developer and the Celestial helpers. The problems from the author’s previous work are repeated here, such as external factors affecting the game’s development. The protagonist seems to act out of contradiction, understanding the consequences of certain actions but not correcting them.

While the idea of introducing players and showing the Celestial Beings’ backstories in game episodes is interesting, there are questions about whether the protagonist’s involvement is necessary. The game’s progress sometimes feels like a long video rather than an actual interactive experience.

The homage to other works could also be problematic, as the author hasn’t provided sufficient clarification on the matter, leading to concerns of plagiarism.

Although it’s commendable that the author is consistent with updates, the story’s pacing doesn’t give readers enough time to fully absorb its emotional impact. The novel is currently popular, though it seems a bit perplexing. I’d recommend it if you’re looking for something new to read, but if you’re on a pay-per-chapter platform, it might not be the best choice. If you have a subscription, however, it’s worth checking out.

Overall Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3.4 stars)
